BALLARAT, Victoria — A local man is reeling after a thief broke into his Holden Commodore overnight and stole his dashcam, but inexplicably left behind the SD card containing nearly an hour of footage of him performing Katy Perry's greatest hits at full volume.
Dean Murchy, 34, discovered the break-in this morning when he noticed his dashcam mount was empty and his glovebox had been rifled through.
His concern quickly turned to horror when he realised the thief had ejected the SD card and left it on the console - after viewing the footage.
"I can handle losing the dashcam. That's just money," Murchy said. "But knowing that some random was watching me belt out Firework a week after my separation while crying at the lights on Sturt Street? That's personal."
Police confirmed they are reviewing the footage as part of the investigation and may have questions about Murchy's music choices.
Murchy has appealed to the thief to return the dashcam, or at the very least, to never speak of what they witnessed.
"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money," he said. "But what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Karaoke skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my dashcam go, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you. I will not pursue you."
"Just so you know, I was going through something that day."
