In what experts are calling “a bold act of parental manifestation,” local couple Jess and Daniel Robertson have successfully booked a daycare spot for their future child - a baby that has not only yet to be conceived, or even discussed beyond a vague, wine-fueled chat about “maybe next year.”
The couple, who will be “thinking about thinking about it” after their Bali trip next February, said they were relieved to have secured a coveted spot at an Early Learning Centre for 2028.
When asked how the centre felt about reserving a place for an imaginary child, director Alison McLeod didn’t bat an eye.
“Oh, that’s pretty standard these days,” she said. “We’ve currently got fourteen unborn babies on the list, and one lady who just has a really strong gut feeling about next winter.”
McLeod admits that the system has gotten out of hand. “Last month, someone pre-booked a place for their grandchild - and their own kids aren’t even dating anyone yet.”
“You can’t wait until after conception to get serious about these things.”
The Robertsons, meanwhile, say they plan to start touring primary schools once they’ve decided which star sign their future kid should be.
At press time, the couple had been offered a waitlist spot at a centre in White Hills on the condition that they provide proof of conception by Christmas.
