MELBOURNE - The MCG has confirmed its famous natural turf will be swapped for synthetic grass at this year’s AFL Grand Final, citing “legal and respiratory concerns” over pre-game performer Snoop Dogg.
“Lawyers warned us letting Mr Dogg near real grass could violate half a dozen stadium regulations,” said MCG spokesperson Denise Caldwell. “Also, we’d prefer not to have the entire centre square smouldering by quarter-time.”
Ground staff will roll out the artificial surface the night before and remove it “once the smoke clears.”
The AFL stressed the move is a one-off - unless next year’s entertainment is Willie Nelson or anyone who’s ever shared a joint with Joe Rogan.
