Bendigo's tap water has been named the best-tasting in Victoria following two days of judging at the 2026 National Best Tasting Tap Water Competition, a result that surprised many locals, particularly those who have run their tap for more than 30 seconds before filling a glass.
Mayor Cr Thomas Prince marked the occasion in traditional fashion with a shoey.
"It only improved it," Prince told The Bendigo Standard, wiping his chin.
The shoey is widely regarded as Australia's highest civilian honour.
Bendigo's award-winning tap water is available from any tap or hose in Greater Bendigo.
The shoe was not available for comment.
